It is in their blood. I refer to M/s Ponting and co. We cannot really blame them for their sly, unfair and gross ways. They must have descended from the pettiest of the criminals who were brought here hundreds of years from England. Meanwhile as his team-mates stoutly rally around their captain, even the Australian press has disapproved of the dirty ways of Ponting. Peter Roebuck says in the Sydney morning herald,
RICKY PONTING must be sacked as captain of the Australian cricket team.If Cricket Australia cares a fig for the tattered reputation of our
nationalteam in our national sport, it will not for a moment longer tolerate the sort of arrogant and abrasive conduct seen from the captain and his senior players overthe past few days. Beyond comparison it was the ugliest performance put up by an Australian side for 20 years. The only surprising part of it is that the Indianshave not packed their bags and gone home. There is no justice for them in thiscountry........
Indian fans could not agree more.
Geoff Lawson, former Australian cricket legend and present coach of the Pakistani team, feels Posting’s attitude is an insult to Australian cricket. He suggests that the Australian team players need some counseling.
Some in the Australian press, like Peter Craddock of daily Telegraph, has raised the question of BCCI bullying ICC and having its way. Seems unfair. When BCCI comes up with genuine grievance, a lot of noise is made about the muscle power of the BCCI. But when the Australian Cricket board raises a similar issue, it is asking for justice.
I guess it is high time that some of the gentlemen in the western media take off their "west-is-dominant" blinkers and see the world as it is today. The world of India and China.
The other day, economic experts on the BBC said that the only way the US and the west can get out of the mess created by the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the resulting shortage of liquidity is to use the huge reserves of savings in rising Asian countries like china, India and the ASEAN.
